Captain Randy Bonds

Captain - Christiansburg Police Department

Captain Randy Bonds has 27 years in law enforcement. He is a New River Valley native, hailing from the Riner area of Montgomery County. Captain Bonds received an Associate’s Degree in Police Science from New River Community College before starting his law enforcement career with the Blacksburg Police Department in 1996. From there he too worked as a Deputy Sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office before moving to the Christiansburg Police Department in 2000. During his time with CPD he has served as a patrol officer, Field Training Officer,  patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, patrol lieutenant and, for fourteen years, as the lieutenant of criminal investigations.

In addition to countless hours of professional development training, while working at CPD, Captain Bonds also earned a Bachelor of Science in Management and Leadership from Bluefield College in 2010. During his tenure he has overseen numerous high-profile investigations of serious crimes, overseen the modernization of training and technology within the criminal investigations unit and implemented many programs aimed at curbing domestic violence and family offenses, including the implementation of dedicated family services and internet crimes against children investigator positions. He has served on the Board of Directors for Children’s Trust for two terms and currently serves on the CACVA Board of Directors and is on the DCJS CASA/Child Justice Act Advisory Committee. Captain Bonds has served the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for 22 years, with the last 4 of those years being the lead instructor.

Captain Bonds is married to his wife of 25 years, Jennifer, who is a middle school history teacher. They have a 16 year old son, Kobi, who is currently a sophomore at Auburn High School.
